Artists from around the world in the Garland community were invited to contemplate the relationship between the 'ancient' and the 'now' in their practice and to reflect on what that means to them. This was my first experience of bringing together a group of artists through an on-line forum, an experience I learnt a lot from, in terms of how we use social media and virtual spaces to bringing artistic communities together. For the curatorial, I reflected upon a personal perspectives on the ancient and the now in relation to my fractured and fluid experiences of Chinese cultures. Currently we are exploring ways in which this exhibition may become an exhibition in real time, perhaps with the opportunity to travel to China. The Ancient Now issue was launched at the NGV on Saturday 22 June, 2019. and supported by RMIT's Contemporary Art and Social Transformation.
